Nga Kor Ming saddened by rubbish left at Dataran Merdeka after World Cup final

Housing minister expresses disappointment over litter left by thousands at Dataran Merdeka after the 2026 World Cup final live screening.

KUALA LUMPUR: Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming expressed sadness over the irresponsible actions of some visitors who left Dataran Merdeka littered with rubbish after watching a live screening of the 2026 FIFA World Cup final early today.

“Our country has been independent for almost 70 years. Everyone has gone to school. When will we learn to keep our surroundings clean?

“How can we bring ourselves to throw rubbish everywhere without any shame? It is sad. I am deeply saddened,” he said in a Facebook post.

Dataran Merdeka was filled with more than 25,000 football fans who gathered to watch the final match, which saw Spain defeat Argentina 1-0.
