Pasir Gudang Highway removed from Malaysia’s worst roads list

Pasir Gudang Highway is no longer among Malaysia’s top 10 worst roads after Johor’s continuous improvement efforts and monitoring of overloaded vehicles.

ISKANDAR PUTERI: The Pasir Gudang Highway, once ranked as the second worst road in Malaysia, is no longer in the notorious category following continuous improvement efforts by the state government.

Public Works, Transportation, Infrastructure and Communication Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said the highway is being continuously monitored to ensure it remains well-maintained, including reviewing plans to divert overloaded vehicles.

“When we first took over monitoring of the Pasir Gudang Highway, it was ranked the second worst road in Malaysia, but now it is no longer in the top 10 worst roads in the country.

“However, there is still work to be done, including monitoring overloaded vehicles, as the Pasir Gudang Highway is frequently used by heavy vehicles from nearby industries,” he said during the Johor State Assembly sitting here today.

He was responding to a supplementary question from Baharudin Mohamed Taib (BN-Permas) on when the Pasir Gudang Highway expansion project will be completed.

Previously, Mohamad Fazli (BN-Bukit Pasir) was reported as saying that the state government has been taking various measures, including urging contractors involved in the Pasir Gudang Highway widening project to expedite repairs on damaged sections of the road.

He also instructed that the entire project area be equipped with sufficient lighting rather than relying solely on blinker lights at certain locations, in the interest of public safety.

The Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, recently instructed the Johor Bahru City Council and Pasir Gudang City Council to ensure that road maintenance, street lighting and public facilities along the highway are properly managed. – Bernama
