Anwar to promote Perodua EV at G20 Summit in South Africa

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will promote Perodua’s first electric vehicle at the G20 Summit, targeting international markets including South Africa and Brazil

RAWANG: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will promote Perodua’s first electric vehicle during next week’s G20 Summit in South Africa.

Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, announced he would act as “chief marketing officer” for the national automaker during his official visit.

“I will be the chief marketing officer for Perodua, promoting the EV to South Africa,” he quipped during an engagement session with Perodua factory staff here today.

The Prime Minister’s itinerary also includes official visits to Ethiopia and Kenya following the summit.

Brazil has indicated it will provide easier access for Malaysian-made products, including Perodua’s electric vehicle.

This commitment was conveyed by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva during their meeting at the 47th ASEAN Summit in October.

Anwar emphasized that while the domestic market remains the priority, international expansion is a key objective.

“The domestic market will be the priority for this EV, and at the same time, we want to break into overseas markets,” he added. – Bernama
