Auxiliary policeman killed in expressway crash after family visit

An auxiliary police officer died after a bus and lorry collision on the North-South Expressway, leaving his wife injured and four children in care

SUNGAI BULOH: An auxiliary police officer’s journey home ended in tragedy after a fatal collision on the North-South Expressway early today.

Luqman Nul Hakim Halim, 37, was killed when the express bus he was travelling in collided with a three-tonne lorry.

The victim was returning to Batu Pahat, Johor, with his wife and four children after visiting his late stepmother in Jitra, Kedah.

His niece, Nor Ashikin Nordin, 32, said the family was informed of the incident by the victim’s father.

She was initially told Luqman Nul Hakim was alive but in critical condition at Sungai Buloh Hospital.

“Nor Ashikin said she was later informed that the victim sustained severe injuries after being impaled by a road barrier in the abdominal area,” she said.

The victim’s wife, Nabila, 40, is receiving treatment for fractures to her arms and legs.

The couple’s four children, aged from seven months to 10 years old, are temporarily under Nor Ashikin’s care.

The body is expected to be buried in Beranang, Selangor, subject to the post-mortem examination.

Private administrative assistant Kamaruz Zaman Khairul Anam, 25, said both his parents were also involved in the same accident.

His father sustained leg injuries after being trapped in the vehicle.

The accident occurred at Kilometre 441.2 of the North-South Expressway southbound between Sungai Buaya and Rawang at 5.51 am.

Thirty-eight of the 42 passengers managed to exit the bus safely.

All injured individuals were taken to Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment.
