Boy, 12, drowns in Seremban water treatment plant reservoir

A 12-year-old boy drowned after falling into a deep water treatment plant reservoir in Seremban while fishing with his siblings.

SEREMBAN: A 12-year-old boy drowned after falling into a water treatment plant reservoir here.

The incident occurred this afternoon while the boy was fishing with his two younger siblings at the Taman Widuri Indah Water Treatment Plant.

The Negeri Sembilan Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 2.22 pm.

A team from the Senawang Fire and Rescue Station was immediately dispatched to the scene.

“Upon arrival, it was found that the boy had slipped into the water treatment plant reservoir, which is about five metres deep, while fishing with his two siblings,” the department’s operations centre said in a statement.

Firemen used grappling equipment to locate the victim.

They found the boy at 2.32 pm, just ten minutes after the initial call.

Health Ministry officials pronounced the boy dead at the scene.

His body was later handed over to the police for further action.
