Infrastructure improvements to address mudslide in Bukit Kiara almost finished, says minister Hannah Yeoh, with command centre monitoring ongoing
PUTRAJAYA: Infrastructure improvement works to deal with the mudslide that occurred in Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur are almost complete, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh.
She said that following the incident that occurred last Saturday, the Public Works Department (JKR) came to carry out monitoring and prepared infrastructure improvements to accommodate rainwater in the area.
A command centre involving JKR, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and contractors had been established to carry out continuous monitoring at the incident location.
“Now it is quite challenging because every time it rains and the mud flows out. We have set up a command centre there and DBKL, JKR are on site with the contractor.
“So far I see the improvement work is almost complete but (its effectiveness) needs to be tested (first),” she told reporters after officiating the Tuition Mission Putrajaya 2026 programme here today.
Yeoh said she had informed the development of the incident to Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi and Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming for follow-up action.
Previously, Yeoh said DBKL had ordered an immediate stoppage of work involving a project in the Bukit Kiara Federal Park Administrative Zone, Kuala Lumpur following the mud flood incident at Jalan Abang Haji Openg last Saturday.
Based on initial reports, the incident occurred following heavy rain between 3.30 pm to 5.30 pm which caused water to overflow from the site project.
Meanwhile, Taman Tun Dr Ismail Residents Association chairman Abdul Jabar Ahmad Junid said the overflow of water from the project site last Saturday was the worst incident to ever affect residents’ homes in the area.
