Four cars gutted in Bukit Mertajam food court fire

A fire near a food court in Bukit Mertajam destroyed two vehicles and damaged two others, with the cause and losses still under investigation.

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Four cars parked near a food court in Jalan Song Ban Kheng here caught fire this afternoon.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations John Sagun Francis said six firefighters from the Perda station were dispatched after receiving an emergency call at 2.27 pm.

The fire involved a Toyota Vellfire and a BMW X5, which were about 95% gutted.

Two Toyota Camry sedans sustained 30% and 15% damage respectively.

Fire control and extinguishing works were carried out with assistance from the Padang Lalang, Cross Street and Berapit volunteer fire brigades.

The blaze was brought under control at 3.04 pm.

The site was then handed over to the Fire Investigation Team for further action.

The cause of the fire and the total losses are still under investigation.
