Kelantan JPJ’s auction of 113 seized vehicles generated RM167,560, with a Mini Cooper fetching the highest bid of RM15,500
KOTA BHARU: The Kelantan Road Transport Department (JPJ) raised RM167,560 from its public auction of 113 unclaimed vehicles.
Director Mohd Misuari Abdullah said 114 bidders participated in the event, with a Mini Cooper securing the highest bid of RM15,500.
A Yamaha RXZ motorcycle followed as the second-highest sale at RM12,100.
Mohd Misuari explained that seized vehicles can only be auctioned after owners fail to reclaim them within a specified period.
“This public auction programme aims not only to reduce the number of unclaimed vehicles at the JPJ Kelantan vehicle impound depot but also serves as a means to generate government revenue through a legitimate and transparent process,” he told reporters.
In a separate enforcement update, he reported that five lorries were seized for carrying loads exceeding 50% of their permitted weight.
The seizures occurred during Ops Perang Lebih Muatan, which ran from October 14 to November 27.
A total of 7,472 vehicles were inspected during the operation, resulting in 2,822 notices and summonses issued.
Mohd Misuari highlighted the dangers of overloaded vehicles, including cargo spills, road damage, and brake failure.
These risks pose significant threats to the safety of all road users. – Bernama
