Kelantan records highest VSP registrations nationwide, with over 60,000 users aiding police through crime reporting and emergency panic button features.
KOTA BHARU: Kelantan has recorded over 60,000 registrations for the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol (VSP) initiative, the highest number nationwide.
State police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat attributed the achievement to ongoing police campaigns and increased public awareness on sharing crime information.
He said Kuala Krai district currently has the highest number of registrations within the state.
Through the VSP app, the public can share crime-related information and notify police when their homes are vacant during festive seasons for monitoring.
A key feature is the ‘panic button’, which allows users to alert authorities directly during emergencies like break-ins.
On traffic preparations for the festive period, Mohd Yusoff said several traffic lights on main roads have been switched to amber flashing mode since yesterday to ease congestion.
He added that 42 traffic hotspot locations and 67 accident blackspots have been identified across the state.
Eight critical routes, including those in Kota Bharu, Kuala Krai, and Pasir Mas, will receive special attention.
A total of 20 officers and 150 traffic personnel will be on duty throughout Ops Selamat from tomorrow until March 24.
The Skuad Jem and Ops Lancar teams have also been activated from today until March 29 to ensure smooth traffic flow.
In a separate development, Mohd Yusoff denied claims linking a house officer’s death at Hospital Kuala Krai to a separate voyeurism case at the same hospital.
“The two cases are not related. We do not want any speculation as the case is still under investigation,” he said.
The death of the female house officer on March 6 remains classified as a sudden death report.
Police have recorded statements from more than 10 individuals in connection with that case.
