Leaders must understand and apply the principle of Fiqh al-Awlawiyyat to make sound decisions amid global uncertainty, says Nurul Izzah.
KUALA LUMPUR: Leaders must understand and apply the principle of Fiqh al-Awlawiyyat, or the jurisprudence of priorities, to make sound decisions amid growing global uncertainty, said Polity Executive Chair Nurul Izzah Anwar.
She said a clear sense of priorities was crucial in planning, implementing and communicating policies, especially in an era where misinformation could spread faster on social media than official responses.
“Leaders must be mindful of what comes first. When priorities are clear, policies can be planned, implemented and communicated more effectively,” she said as a panellist at the Malaysia-Türkiye Leadership Summit 2026.
Speaking at the forum titled Leadership in the Age of Confusion at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia here today, Nurul Izzah highlighted the need for collaboration across generations, including Gen Z, Alpha, Baby Boomers and Gen X, to maximise the nation’s potential in facing economic challenges.
She also cautioned against what she described as the colonisation of the mind, urging the younger generation to take pride in their identity and history instead of blindly following external expectations.
Citing environmental policies, she said Malaysia’s priorities should focus on climate adaptation and flood mitigation, rather than being compelled to pursue net-zero targets set by major economies that were not making similar efforts.
The summit, organised by the Ministry of Higher Education in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Sycamore Foundation, serves as a platform to strengthen intellectual engagement and shared values between Malaysia and Türkiye.
