The MACC rejects old online allegations of a ‘corporate mafia’ link, calling it a smear to discredit its lawful investigations and undermine public confidence.
PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has firmly denied allegations linking it to a so-called ‘corporate mafia’.
It described the claims as an unfounded attempt to tarnish the credibility of its investigations into certain corporate sector parties.
The commission stated the allegations originated from an unaccountable online blog.
It views the dissemination of such false accusations with utmost seriousness.
“The MACC completely rejects these unfounded allegations,” it said in a statement.
It added that such actions risk undermining public confidence in lawful enforcement.
According to the MACC, this is an old claim being recycled to damage its reputation.
All its investigations are conducted based on evidence and established legal processes.
The matter is now being investigated by the Royal Malaysia Police.
The MACC assured it would give its full cooperation to establish the facts.
It warned that spreading unverified allegations may be regarded as spreading false information and defamation.
The commission urged anyone with credible evidence to lodge an official report.
This enables investigations to be carried out in an orderly and fair manner.
It stressed a preference for lawful channels over trial by media.
“The MACC remains committed to carrying out its mandate to combat corruption without fear or favour,” it added.
The commission vowed not to be deterred by attempts to undermine its integrity.
