MACC chief Azam Baki pledges to share information and conduct joint operations with the Malaysian Checkpoints and Border Agency to strengthen integrity efforts.
SHAH ALAM: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is ready to share information and conduct joint operations with the Malaysian Checkpoints and Border Agency (MBCA) to strengthen efforts to combat corruption and misconduct.
MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the cooperation is part of the agency’s initiatives and full support for MBCA director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain in implementing ‘internal cleansing’.
He said the MBCA, which includes agencies like the Immigration Department and Customs, requires close coordination in enforcement to strengthen integrity efforts.
“The MACC has also held several discussions on how we can assist him in implementing internal cleansing, considering he is taking over many officers with different backgrounds and attitudes,” Azam said.
He added that he respects the direction taken by Mohd Shuhaily and has discussed this commitment with him personally.
Azam was speaking to reporters after the MACC-UiTM Inspiration 2025: Integrity and Leadership Day ceremony at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Puncak Alam Campus.
His comments follow a recent media report that an MBCA officer was arrested in Johor Bahru to assist in an investigation regarding alleged involvement in ‘flying passport’ activities.
The arrest by the MBCA Integrity Unit is believed to be part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to combat corruption and prevent illegal entry attempts by foreign nationals.
In the raid at the Sultan Iskandar Building CIQ Complex, the officer involved is believed to have possessed eight foreign passports.
