Malaysia aims to end hardcore poverty by early 2026, says PM

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says Malaysia’s hardcore poverty rate is now 0.09%, with a target for full eradication in the first quarter of 2026

PUTRAJAYA: The government aims to completely eradicate hardcore poverty in the first quarter of 2026, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced.

He said Malaysia is globally recognised as being close to eliminating hardcore poverty, with the rate now at 0.09%.

“Malaysia is recognised globally for being close to ending hardcore poverty, and we are thankful the figure has declined to 0.09%,” Anwar said at the closing of the Rancakkan MADANI Bersama Malaysiaku programme.

He expressed optimism that the remaining cases could be resolved within the targeted timeframe.

The Prime Minister described the achievement as historic, crediting cooperation between ministries, agencies and state governments.

Key initiatives driving this progress include the MADANI Adopted Village, MADANI Adopted School and Sejahtera Komuniti MADANI (SejaTi MADANI) programmes.

“All this is to ensure no group is marginalised or left behind,” he stated.

Anwar linked this milestone to the success of the MADANI Economy policy, which balances economic growth with public well-being.

The three-day Rancakkan MADANI programme offered over 300 touchpoint services, a career carnival and interactive exhibitions.

It continues the administration’s annual platform for reporting its achievements directly to the people. – Bernama
