Global Solidarity Flotilla leaders commend Malaysia for its unwavering support for Palestine, calling it a nation standing on the right side of history amid ongoing Gaza crisis.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Global Solidarity Flotilla (GSF) Steering Committee has thanked Malaysia for its consistent and principled support for the Palestinian cause.
GSF Steering Committee member Thiago Avila said the delegation was honoured to be in Malaysia and thanked both the people and government.
“Malaysia continues to stand as a place where people do not abandon the good causes of our planet, and do not accept decades of genocide, ethnic cleansing and oppression against the Palestinian people,” he said at a press conference today.
He said the world is gripped by hatred, violence and instability, yet Malaysia refuses to turn a blind eye.
Avila noted the situation in Palestine has not improved despite claims of a ceasefire.
He said more than 400 Palestinians have been killed in less than three months, with humanitarian aid to Gaza far below recommended levels.
The GSF and its partners will continue efforts and are counting on Malaysia and regional countries to remain engaged.
“We need to show that there is a whole world against the genocide of the Palestinian people, and that we will never accept the lies that the situation has been resolved,” he stressed.
Another steering committee member, Saif Abukesyek, thanked Malaysia and other Asian nations for their active participation and steadfast solidarity.
He described the Palestinian struggle as an ethical and moral compass for humanity, concerning all who seek a just future.
Abukesyek announced the group’s next mission will take place in the spring of this year.
Preparations are underway to sail as early as possible, considering Mediterranean weather conditions.
He said escalating pressure means any future mobilisation must be bigger and stronger, requiring broader participation.
The exact sailing date cannot be disclosed for security reasons.
The upcoming mission aims to represent all nations, with registration soon opening for participants from various sectors.
Participation will include land-based mobilisation and organisational support, not just sailing.
The GSF is expecting more than 3,000 participants for the next mission.
Also present at the roundtable discussion were GSF member Kleoniki Alexopoulou and Sumud Nusantara Control Centre director-general Datuk Dr Sani Araby Abdul Alim Araby.
Cinta Gaza Malaysia chief executive officer Muhammad Nadir Al-Nuri Kamaruzaman served as the moderator.
