Wildlife authorities warn public after crocodile attack in Sungai Perak, advising against wading or fishing alone in the river area
IPOH: The public has been advised to exercise extreme caution along Sungai Perak following a crocodile attack on a man last Saturday.
The Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) issued the warning after the incident in Kampung Sungai Buaya near Teluk Intan.
Perak Perhilitan director Yusoff Shariff said people, especially fishermen, should avoid wading into the river or fishing alone in the area.
“Perak Perhilitan is monitoring the Sungai Perak area and has installed crocodile warning signs to remind the public to stay vigilant,” he said.
He added that the department wants to prevent any untoward incidents from occurring.
Media reports stated the victim sustained serious knee injuries in the attack at an orchard area.
Yusoff confirmed the department received the report at 6.30 pm on Saturday.
The injured man was taken to Teluk Intan Hospital for treatment.
Yusoff believes the crocodile likely came from a nearby irrigation canal that overflowed due to flooding in the surrounding area. – Bernama
