Melaka cracks down on unlicensed vape retailers with fines and seizures

Melaka authorities are issuing notices, imposing fines and seizing goods from unlicensed e-cigarette retailers to curb illegal sales

MELAKA: Local authorities in Melaka are intensifying enforcement against unlicensed e-cigarette retailers through notices, fines and the seizure of goods.

State executive councillor for Health, Human Resources, and Unity, Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem, said only premises meeting set conditions will be granted a Licence to Trade in Electronic Cigarettes.

He said the enforcement supports the Ministry of Health, which has sole jurisdiction over regulating vape products and sales to minors.

“The local authorities assist by monitoring premises and sharing information to facilitate legal follow-up,” he told the state legislative assembly.

Ngwe was responding to a question about state efforts to curb vaping, which is said to have detrimental effects on public health.

He added that the state government runs health education and anti-vaping campaigns in schools and communities.

It also conducts targeted inspections of retailers to prevent sales to minors. – Bernama
