Melaka NRD extends free identity card address change for Digital Village residents until December 31, aiming for 100,000 participants
MELAKA: The free address change period for identity cards under the Digital Village initiative has been extended until the end of this year.
Melaka National Registration Department (NRD) director Mohd Dzulkarnain Baharuddin said the original deadline of December 31 last year saw only 4,035 residents complete the process.
“We expect some 100,000 residents from hundreds of villages in Melaka to participate,” he told reporters after the Melaka NRD Monthly Assembly.
He said residents need to complete the digital address change to facilitate dealings with government departments.
To assist senior citizens and those in rural areas, the NRD has deployed the “Menyemai Kasih Rakyat” (Mekar) mobile service van.
Residents must provide a copy of the Digital Village address change letter issued by their District and Land Offices.
Digital Village is a Melaka government pilot project to streamline address location processes for grassroots residents.
Under the initiative, 657 villages will undergo digital transformation with new addresses and QR codes for tracking.
In a related development, Melaka NRD received a RM10,000 allocation from Tenaga Nasional Berhad Melaka.
The funds are for the Mekar Ihsan Programme targeting senior citizens, persons with disabilities and the bedridden.
“Through this allocation, we will distribute food aid kits to the target groups in need,” Mohd Dzulkarnain added.
