Pahang warns traders against price hikes and shortweighting

Pahang authorities warn traders at tourist spots against price hikes and shortweighting, with investigations ongoing into a Cameron Highlands strawberry complaint.

KUANTAN: Traders at tourist destinations in Pahang have been reminded not to raise prices or engage in shortweighting during the current holiday season.

State Consumer Affairs and Human Resources Committee chairman Sim Chon Siang (pic) warned that strict action would be taken against any traders found violating regulations.

He cited a recent complaint from Cameron Highlands where a customer who purchased one kilogram of strawberries received only about 700 grams.

“Chief Minister Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail is taking this matter seriously and investigations are ongoing before further action is taken,” Sim told reporters.

The warning follows previous tourist complaints about being shortchanged by strawberry traders in the highland area.

Sim, who conducted inspections at several supermarkets in the city, said three cases of shortweighting were detected during the checks.

He expressed hope that the Pahang office of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) would take firm action against offenders.

“If the weight exceeds the stated amount, we are grateful, but if it falls short, action will be taken,” he said.
