Perak RTD director goes undercover on express bus for CNY checks

Perak RTD director disguised as passenger to monitor bus compliance during Chinese New Year, finding most operators followed rules.

IPOH: The Perak Road Transport Department (RTD) conducted a covert festive season operation with its director going undercover as an express bus passenger.

State RTD director Mohammad Yusoff Abustan disguised himself and boarded a bus from Penang to Ipoh with three enforcement officers to monitor compliance.

“Random checks on four buses from Ipoh to Penang found only one bus in breach for failing to provide a second driver as required,” he said at a press conference at Terminal Meru Raya.

He stated that most bus operators and drivers complied with rules, including safety measures and travel documentation.

Four special undercover teams have been deployed to continue monitoring operations, including at night.

“The operation is not targeted at any specific company, but is conducted openly across all express bus operators,” he added.

The department issued a total of 1,307 notices and summonses during the broader Chinese New Year operation.

Motorcycles recorded the highest number of violations at 892, followed by cars at 404 and public service vehicles at 11.

Authorities also recorded 13 seizure notices under Section 64, involving 10 motorcycles and three cars.

A further 185 other notices were issued, covering 115 motorcycles and 70 cars.
