Deputy PM Ahmad Zahid warns of rising river levels in 9 states, advising vigilance and directing public to official flood information portal.
KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has urged public vigilance following reports of rising river levels across multiple states.
He advised caution based on the latest Department of Irrigation and Drainage data showing affected rivers in Perlis, Kedah, Perak, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, Terengganu and Kelantan.
“I wish to remind everyone to stay alert,” he said in a Facebook post.
“Several rivers in these states are now at Caution, Warning, and Danger levels according to the latest JPS report.”
He directed the public to check current status via the Public Flood Info website at https://publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my.
“Avoid high-risk areas, especially during continuous rain,” he added.
“Stay updated on weather developments, steer clear of strong currents, and follow instructions from authorities.”
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department reported a tropical depression located in the South China Sea is expected to have no significant impact on Malaysia.
The agency detected the depression moving east-northeast at 15 kilometres per hour.
Maximum recorded wind speed reached 56 kilometres per hour approximately 213 kilometres northeast of Dungun, Terengganu. – Bernama
