The National Population and Family Development Board receives RM5.5 million to screen 32,000 women for cervical cancer using HPV DNA tests this year.
TAPAH: The National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) has received RM5.5 million for cervical cancer screening this year.
The funding from the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development will support HPV DNA testing for 32,000 women.
LPPKN chairman Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim urged women to overcome fear and embarrassment to get tested early.
“Early detection of cervical cancer significantly improves the chances of recovery,” she said.
She was speaking after officiating the Perak state-level Cervical Cancer Awareness Month programme in Bidor.
Rohani said LPPKN has appointed Ethnic Ambassadors from various communities to promote screening awareness.
These ambassadors are trained to explain the procedure clearly in different dialects, including to Orang Asli communities.
From 2019 until last year, 198,001 women underwent HPV DNA screening through the programme.
The tests identified 15,315 positive HPV cases, 210 precancerous conditions, and 24 cervical cancer diagnoses.
