Selangor launches a special Women’s Leadership Academy edition for 50 female local authority council members to strengthen governance skills.
KAJANG: The Selangor state government has launched a special edition of its Women’s Leadership Academy (AKW) tailored for local authority council members.
State Women’s Development and Community Welfare Committee chairman Anfaal Saari said the initiative aims to strengthen leadership skills and cultivate competent female leaders for strategic roles in Selangor.
The programme targets female council members from 12 local authorities through three workshop series over two months.
“The first workshop will focus on communication skills, leadership presence, and the roles of council members,” Anfaal told reporters after the launch.
She said the second workshop will address gender awareness and gender-responsive budgeting.
The third session will focus on local government administration and effective governance structures.
“Key areas of focus include strategic leadership, gender-responsive governance, policy-making, and the role of council members in planning inclusive development,” she added.
This special AKW edition is organised with the Women, Family, and Community Development Ministry and several local councils.
Anfaal said the participation of 50 council members reflects the state’s commitment to empowering women’s leadership.
The effort aligns with the Selangor Women’s Policy and Action Plan 2024-2026.
Launched in September 2019, the Selangor AKW programme aims to nurture female leaders for key state roles.
It has produced 345 alumni across four cohorts, with a fifth cohort of 100 civil servants currently in progress. – Bernama
