The Transport Ministry is investigating a bus operator’s compliance with safety audits and speed limiter rules following a fatal three-vehicle crash on the PLUS highway.
SERDANG: The Transport Ministry is investigating the operator of a bus involved in a fatal three-vehicle crash on the North-South Expressway last Sunday.
Minister Anthony Loke said the probe will examine compliance with the Road Transport Department’s Inspection and Safety Audit and the installation of a speed limiter device.
“Our first action is to conduct an audit,” Loke told a press conference after launching the MADANI Siswa Transport Carnival.
He stated that the audit findings will be sent to the Land Public Transport Agency for further action.
“If their audit fails, the first action is to suspend their operation,” he added.
The bus and company will be investigated for compliance with speed limiter installation rules.
Loke also announced plans to appoint companies for a telematics system proof of concept for buses.
“We do want to implement telematics… it isn’t just for buses but for commercial vehicles,” he said.
The system is part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to enhance transport safety.
Police arrested the 22-year-old bus driver yesterday and remanded him for one day.
The crash at Kilometre 441.2 of the PLUS highway resulted in one death and nine injuries.
