Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will speak on Sabah’s 40% revenue entitlement in Parliament, with government appealing some aspects of court ruling.
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will address Sabah’s 40% revenue entitlement issue during Minister’s Question Time in Parliament tomorrow.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil confirmed the Prime Minister will answer the first question regarding this crucial matter at 10am.
“This is a serious matter as it involves public funds and the rights of Sabah’s people,” Fahmi said during the Deepavali Light Fiesta in Lembah Pantai.
He stated the government had carefully considered its decision to ensure fairness and avoid future confusion.
The special Cabinet meeting yesterday decided not to appeal the Kota Kinabalu High Court’s ruling on Sabah’s special grant based on the 40% revenue entitlement.
This decision followed advice from the Attorney-General’s Chambers that Sabah’s right to 40% net revenue must be respected.
The government will now begin negotiations with the Sabah state government for implementation.
However, the government will appeal aspects of the judgement related to alleged abuse of power and constitutional breaches by previous federal administrations since 1974.
“Among the matters we need to appeal is the interpretation stated in the judgement claiming that all Federal Governments from 1974 to 2021 had violated the Federal Constitution,” Fahmi explained.
He emphasized this was a very serious matter that required appeal consideration.
The decision considered long-term implications to prevent future issues and safeguard the integrity of national leadership since 1974.
On October 17, the Kota Kinabalu High Court ruled the Federal Government acted unlawfully by failing to fulfil Sabah’s right to 40% of federal revenue from 1974 to 2021. – Bernama
