Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s official visit to Turkey focuses on strengthening bilateral ties and boosting trade, which hit RM21.2 billion in 2025.

ANKARA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was accorded an official welcoming ceremony at the Turkish Presidential Complex today.

He was received by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the complex at 4.30 pm local time.

The ceremony featured the national anthems of both nations and a guard-of-honour mounted by the Presidential Guard.

Both leaders later held a four-eye meeting and co-chaired the inaugural Malaysia-Turkiye High-Level Strategic Council (HLSC) meeting.

Anwar is on an official visit to Turkiye until tomorrow at the invitation of President Erdogan.

The visit aims to strengthen the longstanding bilateral ties between the two countries.

He is accompanied by his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and several key ministers.

The visit reflects a shared commitment to enhance strategic cooperation in a more structured and comprehensive manner.

Discussions will cover collaboration in trade, investment, defence, technology, education and people-to-people relations.

Malaysia’s total trade with Turkiye from January to November 2025 amounted to RM21.2 billion.

Turkey continues to be an important economic partner for Malaysia.
