Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says Pakatan Harapan maintains important governance role in Sabah election despite contesting limited number of seats
KOTA KINABALU: Pakatan Harapan continues to play an important role in ensuring high governance standards despite contesting fewer seats in the Sabah state election.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he does not want Sabah to remain plagued by corruption and abuse of power after the election.
“We want the parties in the next state government to work together and scrutinise all development,” he said at the Premier Talk and Dinner with the Chinese Community programme.
The event was also attended by DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke.
Anwar wants the next state government to focus on developing a “New Sabah” by advancing projects across all sectors.
He emphasised realising the state’s vast potential through coordinated development efforts.
The Prime Minister highlighted the federal government’s previous cooperation with the caretaker state government as a model for future collaboration.
Anwar consistently promotes Malaysian states including Sabah and Sarawak during his international visits.
He emphasised that cooperation between federal and state governments is vital for national progress.
Malaysia continues to attract global investors due to the harmony within its multiracial society, he added.
Anwar urged the public to safeguard this longstanding unity for the sake of future generations.
“Not many countries can live in peace like this (in Malaysia). Please protect this unity for our children,” he said.
He encouraged constructive dialogue to address any shortcomings while maintaining stability.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed the MADANI Government’s commitment to strengthening the national economy.
This includes fostering good relations with major powers such as China, the United States, African nations, and Europe.
Strong international ties create more opportunities to boost the economy of Sabah and Malaysia, he noted.
“We are a small country, but now people are looking at us, people respect us,” Anwar stated.
He attributed this respect to Malaysia’s peace, strong economy, and political stability.
Anwar revealed that several world leaders recently contacted him, including from Cambodia, Thailand, and the United States.
“I did not ask to call them. They called us,” he said, highlighting the international respect for Malaysia.
He concluded that this global recognition must be remembered to elevate the national economy. – Bernama
