BN begins candidate selection for Kinabatangan and Lamag by-elections

Barisan Nasional starts identifying candidates for the Kinabatangan parliamentary and Lamag state seats in Sabah following the passing of Bung Moktar Radin.

LUMUT: Barisan Nasional has begun the process of identifying candidates for the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat and the Lamag state seat in Sabah.

The seats were previously held by the late Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.

BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said preliminary discussions have been held with Sabah BN’s top leadership.

The goal is to retain victories in both constituencies in the upcoming by-elections.

“Sabah BN has autonomy over the selection of candidates and once it is finalised, it will be conveyed to BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi,” he said.

Zambry spoke to reporters after attending a ceremony in Teluk Gadung, Pulau Pangkor today.

The Election Commission will hold a special meeting on December 16 to discuss the by-elections.

This follows the passing of Bung Moktar on December 5.

Bung Moktar was the Sabah Barisan Nasional chairman.

He successfully defended the Lamag seat in the recent state election on November 29.

He won with a majority of 153 votes in a six-cornered contest.

At the national level, he began his career as Kinabatangan MP after winning the seat in 1999.

He served as the MP for six consecutive terms until his demise. – Bernama
