Barisan Nasional is confident of retaining the Kinabatangan parliamentary and Lamag state seats in the upcoming by-elections, citing strong campaign support from Sabah’s ruling coalition.
SANDAKAN: Barisan Nasional (BN) is confident of retaining the Kinabatangan parliamentary and Lamag state seats in the by-elections scheduled for Jan 24.
BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the confidence stems from ongoing campaign efforts and support from parties in the Sabah government, led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
“He has demonstrated a strong commitment to ensuring that these seats continue to be held by BN candidates, both at the parliamentary and state levels,” Zambry told reporters after visiting a polytechnic project site.
He said the campaign is progressing well due to strong cooperation within the state government.
Zambry, who is also the Higher Education Minister, said the development legacy of the late Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin in Kinabatangan will continue to be upheld.
The by-elections are being held following the death of Bung Moktar on Dec 5 last year.
The Kinabatangan parliamentary by-election will see a three-cornered contest involving BN, Warisan and an independent candidate.
The Lamag state by-election will feature a straight fight between BN and Warisan.
A total of 48,722 registered voters are eligible to cast their ballots.
The Election Commission has set polling day for both by-elections on Jan 24, with early voting on Jan 20.
