BN to hold talks with MIC after Sabah polls

Barisan Nasional will hold discussions with MIC leadership after the Sabah state election to resolve any misunderstandings about the party’s position in the coalition.

MEMBAKUT: Barisan Nasional will hold talks with MIC leadership following the Sabah state election, according to BN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

He expressed hope that the discussions would clarify any confusion regarding the party’s position within the coalition.

“We will meet. I will personally meet the MIC leadership so that we can resolve this issue,” he told reporters after meeting BN machinery at the Binsulok District Voting Centre.

Mohamad expressed confidence that MIC would make the best judgment based on their long-standing relationship.

“I am confident the MIC top leadership will think it over as thoroughly as possible and deeply because MIC was with UMNO and also MCA when we gained independence for our country back then,” he said.

He emphasised that long-established friendship and political cooperation should not be wasted over differences of opinion.

“So, if there is any misunderstanding, if there are any matters that need to be clarified, to be ironed out, it’s best that we discuss them so that this long-standing friendship isn’t simply ended,” he added.

The controversy emerged after delegates at MIC’s 79th annual general meeting unanimously supported a resolution to leave BN.

However, reports indicate delegates gave the MIC president and Central Working Committee authority to decide the party’s future direction.
