DAP will contest eight seats in Sabah polls, defending six seats and contesting Tanjung Aru for first time with 50% women candidates.
KOTA KINABALU: DAP will contest eight seats in the 17th Sabah state election on November 29.
Party secretary-general Anthony Loke confirmed the party will defend six state seats won in the 2020 election.
These include Luyang, Kepayan, Likas, Tanjung Papat, Elopura and Sri Tanjong.
DAP will also contest in Tanjung Aru for the first time, which Loke described as a non-safe seat.
Another interior seat will be contested with a woman candidate, though the specific constituency remains unconfirmed pending discussions.
“All candidates are Sabah-born,” Loke said during the party’s election machinery launch.
“Sabah DAP is led entirely by Sabahans.”
Fifty percent of the party’s candidates are women, with the average age being 39.
Loke expressed confidence that the candidate line-up would maintain the party’s winning momentum in Sabah.
Sabah DAP chairman Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe will move from Luyang to contest in Likas.
State deputy chairman Datuk Chan Foong Hin will contest in Tanjung Aru.
Sandakan MP Vivian Wong Shir Yee will contest in Elopura, while Datuk Jannie Lasimbang will defend Kapayan.
