Early voting for the Kinabatangan parliamentary and Lamag state by-elections went smoothly at the Kinabatangan district police headquarters
KINABATANGAN: The early voting process for the Kinabatangan parliamentary and Lamag state by-elections proceeded smoothly at the Kinabatangan district police headquarters.
Kinabatangan district police chief Supt Ravi Duraisamy said the high level of cooperation from all officers and personnel allowed the process to proceed without any disruptions.
“Everything went well and there were no issues,” he told reporters after inspecting the early voting process.
He assured that security measures for the ballot boxes after the conclusion of early voting are at the highest level.
The early voting centre opened at 8 am and closed at 5 pm.
The Kinabatangan parliamentary by-election is a three-cornered contest involving Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar of Barisan Nasional, Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman of Warisan and independent candidate Goldam Hamid.
The Lamag state by-election is a straight fight between Mohd Ismail Ayob of BN and Mazliwati Abdul Malek of Warisan.
The by-elections were called following the death of the incumbent, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, on Dec 5 last year.
The Kinabatangan parliamentary constituency has 48,722 registered voters, including 13,899 in the Lamag state seat.
Polling for both by-elections will be on Saturday.
