Makkal Sakti clarifies it is not an alternative to MIC in Barisan Nasional

Makkal Sakti president says the party will not replace MIC in BN, emphasising a collaborative approach for the Indian community’s progress

BUTTERWORTH: The Malaysian Makkal Sakti Party has never intended to replace the Malaysian Indian Congress within Barisan Nasional.

Its president, Datuk Seri RS Thanenthiran, said the 17-year-old party would not exploit any internal issues between MIC and the coalition.

“We will never oppose MIC, that is our principle,” he told reporters after the party’s 17th General Assembly on Sunday.

He stated that Makkal Sakti would continue to work alongside MIC for the development and progress of the Indian community.

“Makkal Sakti is not an alternative to MIC,” Thanenthiran emphasised.

He described his relationship with MIC and its president, Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran, as very close, likening it to that of siblings.

The assembly was opened by Deputy Prime Minister and BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir was also present.

Earlier, Ahmad Zahid said no decision has been made regarding MIC’s position in BN.

This follows the circulation of letters purportedly related to MIC’s application to join Perikatan Nasional.

At its general assembly last November, MIC decided to postpone the decision on whether to leave or remain in BN.

In his policy speech, Thanenthiran also requested that the Malaysian Indian Blueprint launched in 2017 be implemented.
