Datuk Mustapha Sakmud is the new minister for Sabah and Sarawak affairs, a key role in the latest cabinet reshuffle aimed at strengthening development coordination.
KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Mustapha Sakmud has been appointed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs).
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the appointment at a press conference in Putrajaya.
The move aims to strengthen policy coordination and the implementation of development agendas in both states.
The Sepanggar MP was previously Deputy Human Resource Minister in 2022.
He then served as Deputy Higher Education Minister following the first cabinet reshuffle in December 2023.
The Sabah and Sarawak Affairs portfolio was established in March 2020.
It was previously held by Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili until 2022.
Following the 15th General Election, the portfolio was assigned to Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali.
After the 2023 reshuffle, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof was appointed minister responsible for the portfolio.
