PKR leaders urged to explain Bersama event presence

PKR leaders who attended a Bersama event must clarify their presence to avoid confusion among party members, says AMK chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim.

PADANG RENGAS: PKR leaders who attended a recent Parti Bersama Malaysia (BERSAMA) event should come forward to explain their presence at the programme, said Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim (pic).

He said this was necessary to ensure their actions do not create confusion among party members or be misconstrued as reflecting PKR’s official stance.

“They should come forward and provide an appropriate explanation. If they do not take such steps and allow this matter to persist, they should not be upset if some party members continue to question their actions,” he said when commenting on their attendance at the event where former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli announced the takeover of BERSAMA.

He told reporters this after attending the Padang Rengas Family Day in conjunction with the Fun Run Untukmu Ibu 2026 programme at Kampung Labu Kubong here today.

Muhammad Kamil also stressed that the move by Rafizi and former PKR vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad to take over BERSAMA would not have a major impact on PKR’s grassroots strength.

Meanwhile, he described as irresponsible PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s claim that the mistake made by Pasir Puteh MP Datuk Dr Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh regarding a story about a companion of Prophet Muhammad SAW may have been influenced by historical writings.

Muhammad Kamil said the explanation was not only shallow but also appeared to normalise the dissemination of questionable narrations, which could create confusion among Muslims.

“Political leaders should be more responsible. Because they are so accustomed to slander, they ended up slandering the Prophet’s companion. In their eagerness to portray others as ignorant, they themselves appear ignorant,” he said.

On another matter, Muhammad Kamil said the cost-saving measures and prudent approach implemented by the government following the global supply crisis have not affected existing plans to safeguard the welfare and well-being of the people.

He said this was evident through the implementation of various initiatives, assistance and development programmes for the people, albeit through a more targeted and smaller-scale approach.

Last Wednesday, Unity Government spokesman Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said at the post-Cabinet meeting press conference that the government’s move to streamline operational spending across ministries and agencies had achieved about 50% of its savings target.

Fahmi said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also Finance Minister, had noted that the measure had shown positive results without affecting service delivery or the implementation of ministry programmes.
