78 Sabah assemblymen, including six appointed members, were sworn in today, with the ceremony led by Chief Minister Hajiji Noor and including opposition leader Mohd Shafie Apdal.
KOTA KINABALU: A total of 78 Sabah assemblymen were sworn in before Speaker Datuk Kadzim M Yahya at the State Legislative Assembly today.
The ceremony included six appointed members and was led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, the Sulaman assemblyman.
He was followed by his deputies: Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam (Kundasang), Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun (Karanaan) and Datuk Ewon Benedick (Kadamaian).
Seven other assemblymen who are state cabinet ministers also took their oaths.
Seventeen assemblymen appointed as assistant ministers were sworn in, including one of the appointed members, Datuk Caesar Mandela Malakun.
The other five appointed assemblymen are Datuk Chin Shu Ying, Datuk Abdul Kassim Razali, Datuk Mohamed Razali Mohamed Razi, Datuk Roger Chin Ken Fong and Grace Lee Li Mei.
Opposition leader Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, the Senallang assemblyman, also took his oath.
Speaker Kadzim began the ceremony by expressing condolences to the family of the late Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.
Bung Moktar, the Lamag assemblyman-elect and Kinabatangan MP, passed away last Friday at age 66.
The swearing-in follows the 17th Sabah State Election held on 29 November.
Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) won 29 of the 73 contested seats, followed by Parti Warisan with 25.
Barisan Nasional secured six seats, independents won five, while UPKO and STAR won three and two seats respectively.
Perikatan Nasional, Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat and Pakatan Harapan each won one seat.
