Retirement marks new beginning to continue serving society, says Fahmi

PUTRAJAYA: Retirement represents a new beginning for civil servants to continue contributing to society and the nation rather than an end to service according to Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

He emphasised that senior government officers should continue sharing their knowledge and experience through mentorship for younger civil service members.

Fahmi noted that perceptions of retirement have evolved over time with some viewing it as liberation from daily work routines.

He expressed hope that the strong bonds and relationships built over years of service would remain unbroken despite retirement.

The minister highlighted the importance of maintaining connections between retirees and current staff to preserve work values and organisational integrity.

Fahmi stated that appreciation for civil servants should extend beyond their active service years to include their ongoing post-retirement contributions.

The Communications Ministry honoured 114 retirees from its various departments and agencies during the Jasamu Dikenang appreciation ceremony.

This ceremony symbolised gratitude for their dedicated service while recognising the legacy they created for future generations.

Notable recipients included former Bernama Deputy Editor-in-Chief Nasriah Darus and former RTM Terengganu Director Sabri Mansor.

The event was attended by Deputy Communications Minister Teo Ni Ching and Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa. – Bernama
