Sabah seeks technology transfer from China to strengthen education, science, and innovation, with a focus on TVET and AI development.
KOTA KINABALU: Technology transfer from China is viewed as a crucial strategic step to strengthen education, science, technology, and innovation development in Sabah.
State Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Datuk James Ratib said innovation is the main driving force for the state’s progress.
He hopes the Sabah-China Chamber of Commerce will actively assist in presenting proposals to introduce advanced Chinese technology.
“The strong strategic ties between the Sabah-China Chamber of Commerce and industry players in China are an advantage that must be fully capitalised on,” he said.
Ratib stated the chamber’s president, Datuk Frankie Liew, has pivotal relationships with Chinese companies for fostering cooperation.
He emphasised his ministry welcomes all forms of strategic collaboration between the two parties.
This includes initiatives for technology transfer, local expertise development, and the use of new technologies like artificial intelligence.
The initiatives are intended to align with the state’s broader development agenda.
In a joint statement, Sabah-China Chamber of Commerce deputy president Brett Chua said China has several TVET-related technologies with sharing potential.
He noted Sabah currently lacks a suitable platform to fully receive and implement such technology.
Chua stated the courtesy visit served as an important starting point for realising strategic TVET cooperation.
