Semenyih bypass project to replace affected Malay reserve land

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim assures Malay reserve land used for the Semenyih Bypass and a new Islamic cemetery will be replaced, as confirmed by the Selangor Menteri Besar.

SEMENYIH: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has given an assurance that all Malay reserve land involved in the Semenyih Bypass Project will be replaced.

He said Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari had personally confirmed this commitment.

“I heard it myself… I will not compromise on the status of Malay Reserve Land,” Anwar said at the launch of the Semenyih Public Infrastructure Development project.

“Yes, if the Malay land has to be taken for road development, it will be replaced.”

The 4.3-kilometre bypass will connect Jalan Sungai Lalang and the Kajang Dispersal Link Expressway (SILK Highway).

Its construction will be implemented through a privatisation model.

The project also includes the construction of a new Islamic public burial ground in Hulu Langat.

This new cemetery site will be handed over to the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council for maintenance.

It will provide approximately 100,000 burial plots to meet long-term demand.

The existing Raudhatul Sakinah Islamic Cemetery in Kuala Lumpur is projected to meet demand for only another four years.

Anwar said the annual number of deaths in the Federal Territory is expected to exceed 3,000 in the next five years.

He acknowledged the project’s development cost is high due to complex issues like land acquisition.

However, he stated the project is necessary for the benefit of local residents.

The bypass is a strategic collaboration between KHK Land and the Federal Government.

It will feature a four-lane route connecting Semenyih to the SILK Highway.

The link will also provide access to six major expressways including LEKAS and CKE.

The initiative is expected to significantly ease local traffic congestion.

It will also reduce travel time to Kuala Lumpur from 45 minutes to just 20 minutes.
