Severe weather alert issued for multiple states across Malaysia

MetMalaysia issues midday thunderstorm warnings for Pahang, Selangor, KL, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan and Sabah, with heavy rain and strong winds expected.

KUALA LUMPUR: MetMalaysia has issued a severe weather alert for several states in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah, effective until 1 pm today.

The warning covers thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds in multiple districts across affected regions.

In Pahang, the alert applies specifically to the Bera district.

Selangor areas affected include Klang, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang.

The Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya are also under the thunderstorm warning.

Negeri Sembilan districts covered are Jelebu, Seremban, Kuala Pilah and Jempol.

Sabah’s Sandakan division faces severe weather in Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran and Sandakan.

Kudat district in Sabah is also included in the weather alert.

Separately, MetMalaysia reported a tropical depression detected northeast of the Philippines.

The system was located about 219 kilometres northeast of Gingoog City at 8 am today.

It is moving westward at 10 km/h with maximum winds reaching 56 km/h.

The tropical depression currently poses no significant impact on Malaysia.

Its closest point lies approximately 1,211 kilometres from Semporna, Sabah. – Bernama
