MALACCA: Malacca is one of the largest chicken-producing states, so there is no need to import so as to ensure sufficient supply at all times, said state Entrepreneurs Development, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs exco, Allex Seah Choo Chin.
He said the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) and related ministries have regular engagement with stakeholders to ensure supply in the market.
“The government also provides revolving financing incentives for small and medium sized farmers, and Micro Credit Schemes for working capital to assist community farmers, and programmes to convert open poultry farms to closed ones, to ensure sufficient chicken supply,“ he said at the Malacca State Assembly sitting, in Seri Negeri here today.
He was answering Dr Mohd Aleef Yusof’s (PN-Sungai Udang) question regarding the volume of import and production of chicken in the state.
“The Federal government will also provide access to chicken supply through Madani Agro Sales, Mobile Rahmah Sales, Madani Cooperative Sales, and other initiatives nationwide to ensure people can buy chicken at current ceiling prices,” he said.
Allex (PH-Kesidang) said the state KPDN will also continue to enforce laws under the Supply Control Act 1961 and Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 to prevent stockpiling of controlled price items. –Bernama
