Storm damages MRSM Pendang, no injuries reported

No injuries were reported among MARA Junior Science College students in Pendang, Kedah after a storm and heavy rains damaged the institution’s administration block, with MARA chairman directing immediate safety measures and emergency repairs

KUALA LUMPUR: No injuries were reported among MARA Junior Science College  (MRSM) students in Pendang, Kedah after a storm and heavy rains hit the institution this afternoon.

Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said he received a report about the incident and ordered the college authorities to monitor and carry out periodic inspections to ensure the safety and well being of the students.

“I was informed that the dormitory and academic blocks, surau and food hall were unaffected and electrict supply in the area was normal but the administration block suffered extensive damage, including to the teachers’ room, lecture hall, computer lab, counsellor’s room and art education room, and electricity supply to the block has been cut,” he posted on Facebook tonight.

He said that the MARA secondary education division director has been instructed to take immediate action to ensure students are safe and special emergency allocation will be channeled for repairs.

“The safety and well being of students and teachers are always our priority. I will continue to monitor developments,” he added.
