“Gained 20kg in less than a year” — Malaysian man asks how to tell girlfriend to lose weight

“My girlfriend has gained almost 20kg since we became a couple. Less than a year. From 52kg to 69kg.”

A Malaysian man has sparked a discussion online after asking how to approach his girlfriend about her weight gain, claiming she had gained nearly 20kg in less than a year since they started dating.

In an anonymous X post, the man shared that his girlfriend had gone from 52kg to 69kg in less than a year.

“Mein, how do I tell my girlfriend she’s getting fat? My girlfriend has gained almost 20kg since we became a couple. Less than a year. From 52kg to 69kg.”

The post immediately drew strong reactions, with many netizens criticising the man for focusing on his girlfriend’s weight rather than her well-being.

One user pointed out that weight gain can happen for many reasons and questioned his attitude towards his partner, saying:

“Just find a girlfriend whose weight never goes up. She’s happy now because she’s in a good place. If you can’t accept her when she’s gained weight, you don’t deserve her when she’s slim either. Not even married yet and already complaining. If you get married later, who knows how it’ll be. Go find a woman who’s ‘confirm’ skinny and never gains weight. Simple.”

A few jokingly proposed financial incentives linked to weight loss.

“Tell your girlfriend for every 1kg she loses, you give her RM100. Confirm she’ll get slim.”

“Tell your girlfriend the hantaran will go up or down RM1,000 depending on every 1kg of her weight. Starting point RM5,000 today. Good luck.”
