Rescuers conclude operations at Jakarta’s Bantargebang landfill after finding all victims, with six survivors confirmed safe.

JAKARTA: Rescue operations have concluded at a massive landfill collapse near Jakarta that killed seven people. Authorities confirmed all individuals at the site are now accounted for.

The collapse occurred on Sunday at the Bantargebang landfill, the country’s largest waste site. Heavy rains triggered the incident, causing a mountain of garbage to give way.

Desiana Kartika Bahari, head of the local rescue agency, stated the search ended after finding the seventh victim. Six people survived the disaster, with the final two missing persons confirmed safe at home.

The casualties included truck drivers and food stall owners working at the landfill. More than 200 rescuers used excavators and thermal drones during the extensive search operation.

The Bantargebang landfill spans approximately 110 hectares. It receives between 6,500 and 7,000 tons of waste daily.
