Bahrain drone strike injures 32 as Gulf faces new attacks

Iranian drone attack in Bahrain wounds 32 as Gulf states report fresh missile and drone assaults across the region.

MANAMA: An Iranian drone attack on Bahrain’s Sitra island injured 32 people overnight, the kingdom’s health ministry confirmed on Monday.

All the wounded were Bahraini citizens, with four cases described as serious, including children.

The casualties included a 17-year-old girl with severe head and eye injuries and a two-month-old baby.

The assault came as several Gulf nations reported new attacks, with explosions heard in Qatar’s capital Doha.

Qatar’s defence ministry stated its forces had intercepted a missile attack on Monday.

Saudi Arabia’s defence ministry said it intercepted and destroyed two waves of drones heading towards the Shaybah oil field.

The United Arab Emirates’ crisis authority said air defences responded to “a missile threat”.

Kuwait announced another missile and drone attack on Monday, following a major assault the previous day.

The United States has ordered non-emergency embassy staff and their families to leave Saudi Arabia due to safety risks.

Drones have recently hit US embassies in Riyadh, Kuwait, and the UAE.

Gulf countries have faced the brunt of Tehran’s retaliation campaign since late February.

Iran launched the sprawling strikes after the US and Israel conducted a massive air campaign against it.

President Masoud Pezeshkian warned Iran “will be forced to respond” if neighbours’ territory is used to attack it.
