Danish and Greenlandic ministers will meet US Vice President Vance and Secretary Rubio at the White House to discuss escalating rhetoric over the Arctic territory.
COPENHAGEN: Denmark’s foreign minister and his Greenlandic counterpart will meet US Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the White House.
Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said the meeting was requested to move discussions “into a meeting room, where you can look each other in the eye and talk through these issues.”
The talks follow recent comments from US President Donald Trump about acquiring the Arctic territory.
Trump said on Sunday that the United States would take Greenland “one way or the other.”
Vance asked to take part in the meeting requested with Rubio and will host it.
Meanwhile, Danish Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen will meet NATO’s Secretary General Mark Rutte to discuss Arctic security.
Rutte said Monday the alliance was working on “the next steps” to bolster security in the region.
Diplomats say some NATO members have floated the idea of a new mission for the Arctic.
No concrete proposals are yet on the table.
