Jeffrey Epstein denied being ‘the devil’ and downplayed his sex offender status in a video interview with Steve Bannon released by US authorities.
WASHINGTON: Jeffrey Epstein denied he was the “devil” and insisted he was only the lowest level of sexual predator in a newly released video interview.
The footage, part of a vast document dump by US authorities, features an interview conducted by Donald Trump’s former advisor Steve Bannon.
It appears to have been filmed at the deceased financier’s New York home on an unknown date.
“Do you think you’re the devil himself?” Bannon asks Epstein in the two-hour recording.
“No, but I do have a good mirror,” Epstein says smiling, before adding, “I don’t know. Why would you say that?”
The convicted sex offender, who died in prison in 2019, also downplayed the seriousness of his legal status.
He opposed Bannon labeling him a “class three sexual predator,” a US classification indicating the most serious threat to public safety.
“No, I’m the lowest,” says Epstein.
“But a criminal,” Bannon adds, to which Epstein responds: “Yes.”
The confrontation followed Bannon asking if Epstein considered his money “dirty” as he “earned it advising the worst people in the world.”
Epstein insisted he made his money legally but acknowledged that “ethics is always a complicated subject.”
He argued that he gave cash to help eradicate polio in Pakistan and India to justify his earnings.
Documents show Bannon had regular correspondence with Epstein, who offered to help spread his conservative ideology in Europe.
Millions of pages on Epstein, along with photos and videos, have been published by US authorities since Trump took office in January 2025.
They have shed light on Epstein’s ties to figures like Bill Gates, Woody Allen, Donald Trump and Bill Clinton.
