Hezbollah holds a mass funeral for fighters killed in the war with Israel, as a US-brokered ceasefire holds in south Lebanon.
KFAAR SÎR: Hezbollah held a mass funeral in this south Lebanon village for more than a dozen fighters killed during more than six weeks of war with Israel.
The ceremony came after Israel and Lebanon entered into a 10-day ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump.
People flocked to the centre of the village, which was decorated with Hezbollah flags and pictures of those killed.
Men, women and children thronged the streets as 14 coffins, covered in Hezbollah flags, entered on an open truck adorned with flowers.
Women stood on balconies and threw rose petals onto the coffins as they passed through the damaged village.
Hezbollah said it was returning “a group of blessed souls to the soil of the south” but has not provided a total death toll for its fighters.
Israel said last Wednesday that it had killed “more than 1,700” Hezbollah fighters during the war, a number AFP cannot verify.
Lebanese authorities say Israeli strikes have killed more than 2,450 people since the war broke out on March 2.
On Monday, Hezbollah held a funeral for four fighters in the southern suburbs of the capital Beirut.
