Iran vows retaliation for attacks launched from any country

Iran’s president pledges a powerful response to US-Israeli attacks originating from any nation, while calling for regional unity to resolve differences.

ANKARA: Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian vowed on Sunday to respond to United States-Israeli attacks launched from any country, while stressing that his nation views its neighbours as “brothers”.

Pezeshkian stated that his remarks from Saturday, in which he apologised for attacks on neighbouring countries, had been misinterpreted, according to reports carried by the state-run Press TV.

“We stand strongly against and respond powerfully to those who attack our country,” the Iranian president said during a visit to a health centre.

He asserted that Iran’s armed forces and volunteer Basij forces would defend the country with all their might, adding that “Iran will not bow down to bullying, oppression and aggression”.

Pezeshkian called on Iran and its neighbours to resolve their differences domestically in defiance of efforts by enemies to drag them to a war and sow discord.

More than 1,200 people, including Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and top military officials, have been killed in US-Israeli attacks on Iran since February 28.

Tehran retaliated by launching drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and Gulf nations that are home to US military assets.
