Terengganu gets RM410.37 million for seven flood mitigation projects including coastal erosion control and river conservation under 13MP.
KUALA TERENGGANU: Seven new projects worth RM410.37 million have been approved for Terengganu under the First Rolling Plan of the 13th Malaysia Plan.
The approval was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as part of federal efforts to strengthen irrigation and drainage infrastructure.
Terengganu Irrigation and Drainage Department director Ir Osman Abdullah said the projects will significantly reduce flood risks in affected areas.
Major projects include the RM140 million Rusila Coastal Erosion Control Project in Marang and the RM198.17 million Sungai Buaya Local Flood Plan in Kuala Nerus.
The Anak Sungai Ibai Local Flood Plan in Kuala Terengganu received RM10 million in funding.
Other approved initiatives include a RM25 million River Conservation Project and a RM29.5 million drainage system for Kampung Mak Chili Paya in Kemaman.
The Kemaman Environmentally Friendly Drainage Master Plan received RM3.2 million while the Dungun River Basin Flood Mitigation Master Plan Study got RM4.5 million.
“Alhamdulillah, this approval will have a major impact on reducing flood risk and the well-being of residents in the affected areas,” Osman told reporters.
He spoke after the DID Phase 2 Flood Forecasting and Warning Programme briefing with media representatives.
Approval was also given to 18 existing extension projects, bringing total DID projects under the 13MP to RM2.21 billion. – Bernama
