NEW YORK: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has appealed to all national stakeholders in Guinea-Bissau to exercise restraint and respect the rule of law.
UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said the UN chief is following the Guinea-Bissau situation with deep concern.
Guterres will continue to closely monitor developments as they unfold, Dujarric told a daily briefing.
Guinea-Bissau’s armed forces announced Wednesday they had assumed full powers of the country.
The military imposed several emergency measures through national television.
They stated the move was intended to respond to actions by certain politicians attempting to destabilise the country. – Bernama-Xinhua
